Since September, clinicians at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust have used Accurx Scribe, powered by Tandem, in more than 12,500 consultations.

Within the first month alone, 120 clinicians were actively using the scribe.

Following that initial use, the trust has chosen to move from pilot to a three year, trust wide rollout.

  • 1,000 clinicians will have access

  • Up to 250,000 appointments a year could be supported

Hertfordshire is one of more than 40 trusts using Accurx Scribe.

1,000 clinicians to use Accurx Scribe across the trust

The rollout extends access from a pilot group to 1,000 clinicians.

In the announcement, Julie McCall, Head of Digital Programmes, reflects on the early uptake during the pilot. At executive level, CEO Elliot Howard Jones speaks about the ambition to reduce admin and allow clinicians to be more patient facing.

The three year agreement formalises that direction.

Completing notes during the visit, not after

During each consultation, Accurx Scribe runs quietly in the background and generates a structured draft note from the conversation.

The clinician reviews and edits the draft, then approves it before transferring it into the medical record with one click. Clinical responsibility remains with the clinician.

On average, Tandem reduces documentation time by 29 percent per day. For many clinicians, that equates to around one to two hours saved across a full clinic list, depending on how much of the day is spent on admin.

In a pilot, that changes the end of the day for individual teams. At trust-wide scale, it adds up. With 1,000 clinicians using the scribe, even one hour saved per clinician per day would mean 1,000 clinical hours returned daily across the organisation.

At full rollout, this way of working could support up to 250,000 appointments a year.

Clinicians describe fewer headaches and more presence

The clearest account of the impact comes from the clinicians themselves.

In this case study, one clinician describes the headaches he used to get after hours of typing notes, and how they have stopped. Others speak about feeling more present with patients.

The three year rollout means this experience will now extend to 1,000 clinicians across Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust.
