Doktor.se stands among the Nordic region’s largest hybrid healthcare providers—combining digital consultations with in-person care. With over 1,250 clinicians across more than 25 clinics and 2.5 million patient visits annually, they needed a way to ease the documentation burden on staff—without disrupting workflows or compromising safety. Tandem delivered.

About Aleris

Aleris is one of the largest specialty care providers in the Nordic region, operating across Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The organization delivers specialist care within the public healthcare system, while also serving patients through private insurance and self-pay models.

Across Sweden, Aleris employs more than 5,000 clinicians and staff, covering approximately 30 medical specialties. Care is delivered through a broad network of clinics and care units, including surgical care, psychiatry, diagnostics, ophthalmology, and community-based services.

Prior to Tandem, Aleris had tested speech-to-text solutions that did not meet performance requirements in specialist care settings.

The documentation burden and operational challenge

Clinicians at Aleris operate under significant documentation requirements across highly specialized workflows. Administrative work competed with clinical focus, increasing stress between patient visits and contributing to cognitive load.

These pressures were especially acute in care contexts where clinician presence, observation, and patient interaction are central to care quality. Leadership identified documentation burden as both a clinician experience issue and an operational risk at scale.

At the organizational level, Aleris viewed investment in effective, workflow-native technology as necessary to sustain quality and accessibility across a large, distributed care network.

How Tandem was used in clinical practice

Aleris introduced Tandem following a structured decision process. Tandem was first showcased to key stakeholders and validated with clinicians from selected specialties. Based on this evaluation, Aleris built a formal business case and made a central decision to roll out Tandem across the full Swedish organization.

Tandem was used as an AI assistant that listens to clinical visits and generates structured documentation, enabling clinicians to focus on patient interaction while remaining in control of clinical content. The solution fit into existing workflows without requiring changes to how visits were conducted.

Tandem was applied across multiple care forms, including clinic-based and home-based care, demonstrating flexibility across care environments.

Results at organizational scale

Aleris implemented Tandem through a phased rollout across specialties and clinics.

  • More than 750 clinicians were onboarded

  • Deployment spanned 60+ clinics

  • Clinicians collectively created 25,000+ clinical notes per month using Tandem

The rollout progressed gradually across clinical domains, including orthopedics and surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, psychiatry, medical diagnostics, ophthalmology, and community-based care.

Clinicians described improved presence and reduced stress during care delivery:

“It makes me much more present with the patient and more attentive… eye contact and body language are things an AI can never replace, but this lets us focus entirely on that part of the job.”

They also described reduced strain between visits:

“You become very stressed between patients—trying to capture everything. I feel less drained when I get home.”

Leadership framed the initiative as strategically critical:

“This is really a question of survival—staying at the forefront of technological development. Tandem is a very important part of that strategy.”

Implementation insights from Aleris

Aleris established a central project group to coordinate rollout across care units and created a clear implementation plan with a defined timeline.

To support adoption, Tandem was demonstrated at leadership meetings across business units, and early champions were secured within each medical specialty. Usage was monitored through weekly data reports at clinic and clinician level, enabling targeted follow-ups and support.

This structured approach allowed Aleris to scale Tandem while maintaining clinician trust and minimizing workflow disruption.

Future outlook and partnership trajectory

Aleris views Tandem as a long-term strategic partner. Beyond current documentation support, leadership highlighted significant potential for continued development, increased automation, and expanded clinical support over time.

For a large Nordic specialist provider, Tandem supports clinician presence, reduces administrative strain, and enables scalable care delivery—without compromising professional autonomy or the human aspects of patient care.
