Tandem AI Trial Shows Faster Notes, Lower Stress, and More Time for Patients at St Wulfstan Surgery
Like many GP clinics, St Wulfstan’s Surgery in Warwickshire faced rising documentation pressures impacting both patient experience and clinician wellbeing. Between February and May 2025, the practice piloted Tandem’s ambient AI scribe - the impact was immediate. Clinicians reported faster documentation, reduced stress, and more time to engage meaningfully with patients.

Patient presence and clarity improved by 10%
Patients noticed the difference immediately. With Tandem, 89.9% felt their GP was fully engaged, compared to 83.6% without. They also said care plans were easier to understand (84.9% vs. 75.4%). Several commented on how much better it felt to have a GP’s “full attention, not typing notes.
Cutting GP screen time by more than half
GPs spent 16.7% of the consultation looking at a computer with Tandem, compared to 74.3% without. This freed up eye contact, reduced fatigue, and made consultations feel more natural. One GP said it was the first time in years they could truly listen without worrying about catching up on notes later.

Notes in one minute instead of three
43.6% of notes were finished in under a minute. Without it, only 1.37% were that quick, and more than half took longer than three minutes. This shift meant clinicians could close records almost instantly after a consultation, instead of carrying the workload into evenings.
Patients reported greater GP presence (89.9% vs. 83.6%) and better understanding of care plans.
One patient said: “It was great to speak to the GP with their full attention, not having to write notes.”
GPs spent far less time typing (74.3% down to 16.7%) and finished more notes in under a minute.
Administrative stress fell by 19 percentage points.

“In 100% of cases, GPs felt the AI-scribe helped them remember key aspects of the consultation and represented an improvement over the previous way of working.”
Safe deployment built on governance and trust
St Wulfstan’s Surgery made governance central to the pilot: DPIA, DCB0160, updated privacy policies, and new EMIS protocols. Once implemented, Tandem passed every safety and quality audit — all notes were rated “clinically appropriate.” Patients also accepted the tool, with none reporting disruption.
“Tandem has improved the accuracy of notes — capturing useful information I wouldn’t have recorded due to time constraints. It makes clinic a lot more efficient and less stressful.”
• Denise Koppschall, Physician Associate
“Patients feel that both they and the GP are more present during the consultation… this could improve communication and reduce complaints.”
